1. Who we are

Zawj & Zawja ("we", "us", "our") operates a matrimonial platform for Muslims seeking marriage. This policy explains what information we collect about you, how we use it, and your rights.

2. Information we collect

  • Account data — email, username, password (hashed), phone number (optional).
  • Profile data — the matrimonial information you provide: age, gender, location, education, deen-related preferences, photos, etc.
  • Usage data — pages visited, likes, matches, messages metadata (we do not read your messages except in response to a formal report or legal request).
  • Technical data — IP address, device info, browser, approximate location.
  • Payment data — handled by Flutterwave, DPO, Pesapal, PayPal, MTN, and Airtel. We never store full card details.

3. How we use it

  • To run the matchmaking engine and show you compatible profiles.
  • To protect the community (moderation, abuse detection, account security).
  • To process subscription payments and provide premium features.
  • To send transactional and (with your consent) marketing emails.
  • To comply with applicable law.

4. What we share

We do not sell your data. We share only what is strictly necessary with payment gateways (to process your payment), with mail/SMS providers (to deliver verification codes), and where required by law.

5. Your rights

  • Access, correct, or delete your data at any time from Settings.
  • Hide your photos, go incognito, or temporarily deactivate your account.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time.
  • Permanently delete your account — data is purged within 30 days.

6. Data retention

Active account data is retained as long as your account exists. Deleted accounts are purged within 30 days, except for transactional records required by law (kept up to 7 years).

7. Security

Passwords are bcrypt-hashed. Connections are TLS-encrypted. We use rate limiting, CSRF protection, and prepared statements throughout. No system is perfect — report any suspected breach to our team immediately.

8. Children

Our service is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We delete any account where we discover the user is underage.
